Questions to ask before accepting a heat pump quote

A useful heat-pump quote should explain more than the outdoor unit and the headline price. Before paying a deposit, ask the installer for the evidence and scope that let you understand what you are actually buying.

Heat-loss evidence

Ask for the room-by-room heat-loss calculation and the design temperatures used. A system size on its own does not explain how it was selected.

Flow temperature

Ask what design flow temperature the system is expected to use and whether emitter outputs have been checked at that temperature.

Radiators and emitters

Ask which radiators or emitters need changing, which can stay, and what output each one provides at the design condition.

Electrical work

Ask whether consumer-unit work, new circuits, isolators or supply upgrades are included or still subject to survey.

Hot water and controls

Confirm cylinder size, controls, pumps, valves and any buffer or volumiser that forms part of the proposed system.

Exclusions and provisional items

Ask for a written list of exclusions, provisional sums and work that could increase the final price after survey.

Commissioning and handover

Ask what commissioning records, settings, warranties and handover documents you will receive before final payment.
